Dubai's VX Studio has won a contract of undisclosed value to work on Al Hamra Group's planned Rove Manar Mall in Ras Al Khaimah, Construction Week can reveal.
The architecture and design firm VX Studio has been appointed lead consultant for Rove Manar Mall, a 250-room mid-scale property in the UAE's Northern Emirate.
Current plans include constructing an eight-storey hotel next to Al Hamra's Manar Mall, based on which the property is named. However, the developer told Construction Week that the number of floors may be subject to design change.
Construction work is slated to get under way later this year, and Rove Manar Mall is expected to be operational in 2020. Its amenities will include an outdoor pool, a gym, and an all-day restaurant called The Daily.
Al Hamra purchased a 5,610m² plot of land on which to build the hotel, but told Construction Week that the cost was confidential.
The Rove Hotel brand was developed as a joint venture between developers Meraas Holdings and Emaar Properties.
Al Hamra's Rove property will compliment the expansion of Manar Mall, which is being carried out by its subsidiary, Al Hamra Real Estate Development.
The developer is doubling the size of Manar Mall, which is already the biggest shopping centre in Ras Al Khaimah, by increasing the outlet's gross leasable area from 27,000m² to 55,000m². In addition to adding 80 retail outlets to the mall, Al Hamra has added two multi-storey car parks, a family entertainment centre with the tallest indoor drop tower in the Middle East and North Africa, a new food court, and a landscaped promenade with fountains.
Expansion work, excluding the cost of the promenade and development of Rove Manar Mall, is expected to cost approximately $98m (AED360m). Dubai's Sun Contracting & Engineering was named main construction contractor for the expansion project, for which building work started on 17 March, 2015.
