The Buildings Department of Dubai Municipality recently launched a new initiative for the design and implementation of industrial buildings.

The new system allows the contractor to design and supervise the industrial buildings without the need to appoint a consultant office, which will result in speedy implementation, reduction in the cost of projects, and will open the way for the promotion of investments.

The authority said it has begun to receive applications for building permits for industrial buildings by qualified contractors.

Layali Al Mulla, director of Buildings Department at the municipality, said: "Within a short period of launching the initiative, the number of projects has reached five.

“A specialised team has been formed to follow up with the projects during all stages of the design to the implementation and ensure the safety of construction, achieving the goal of the Buildings Department by applying the best global best practices in the construction sector and reduce the cost to investors and owners.”

So far the department has already trained the cadres of 20 companies in the field of construction of metal structures.

Fida Al Hammadi, head of Research and Building Systems Section, said: "They have become capable of designing and implementing industrial projects and take the role of consultants to obtain building permits from Dubai Municipality and oversee the progress of the projects.”
