Big Things Group has been selected to fundraise, build, and operate the US pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai under a public-private partnership (PPP) model.

Big Things Group will help facilitate the fundraising, project management, design, construction, operation, and disassembly and removal of the USA Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai, the US Department of State (DOS) said.

DOS issued a tender for work on the US Federal Register in February, and estimated the total cost of the project would be between $50m (AED183m) and $60m (AED220m).

It received a "record number of proposals" in terms of both quality and quantity, and it was the most proposals the US had ever received since it moved to a PPP model in the early 1990s, DOS added.

The US pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai will be designed around the theme 'What Moves You'. It aims to highlight US culture, technology, and values, especially within the theme of mobility, one of three themes at Expo 2020 Dubai, alongside sustainability and opportunity.

A DOS spokesperson said a final participation contract with Expo 2020 Dubai organisers to confirm US involvement in the "largest public and economic diplomacy event of 2020" would be signed when "sufficient funds" have been raised.

Expo 2020 Dubai is the first Expo to take place in the Middle East, North Africa, or South Asia. It is expected to attract approximately 25 million people and will be among the biggest in the world.

Construction is also "well advanced" on the three Theme Districts that form the core of the site, Expo 2020 Dubai said in a statement, adding that foundations are complete and "buildings continue to rise from the ground".
