Dubai Municipality (DM) has ramped up its efforts to deliver pest control and waste management services in the emirate during Ramadan.
DM’s pest control section, part of its Public Health Services Department, has also activated a campaign targeting a total of 150 Ramadan tents and restaurants.
As part of DM’s pest control campaign, daily programmes will be carried out in and around 110 Ramadan tents in Dubai to ensure a healthy and bug-free environment for iftar.
DM’s list of Ramadan tents was collated in collaboration with its Food Safety Department, and the emirate’s Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department. An integrated plan has been rolled out for Ramadan to ensure all pest control operations take place early in the morning, before temperatures rise.
DM’s Pest Control Section has also intensified monitoring and inspection work around 40 popular restaurants to prevent insect infestation, with recommendations for immediate disposal of waste in designated places.
Eng Hisham Abdulrahman Al Yahya, head of DM’s Pest Control Section, said such campaigns are part of an annual pest control plan charted out for the emirate.
Earlier this month, DM said its Waste Management Department would deploy a team comprising 2,200 workers, as well as increase its sweeping equipment fleet, to manage waste generated in Dubai during the Holy Month.
Eng Abdulmajeed Sifai, director of the waste department, said an emergency team comprising 12 supervisory and regulatory staff and 65 cleaners had been formed to ensure efficient services in Ramadan.
The waste department will focus on the cleanliness of highways, as well as water assets such as Dubai Creek, Jaddaf Creek, Business Bay Canal, Dubai Water Canal, and Deira Harbour Canal during the Holy Month.
DM’s waste disposal site at Al Qusais will operate round-the-clock on all days of the week, with four work shifts assigned for the site, while the Al Badyada Dump, allocated for construction waste, will operate in two shifts – 5am to 5pm, and 9pm to 5am.
Work at DM’s Medical Waste Treatment Plant and Hazardous Waste Facility will be carried out between 7am and 5pm.
The Habbab and Warsan dumps will be serviced between 5am and 12pm throughout the Holy Month, except on Fridays.
