Al Sahel Resort Company, a joint venture between Mumtalakat and Sama Dubai, has announced plans to develop a five-star resort on the southwest coast of Bahrain.
The resort will boast a 1.25km coastline and an “out-of-the-city” location, making it the country’s first five-star “retreat” style destination, the state-run Bahrain News Agency (BNA) reported.
Khalid Al Rumaihi, chairman of Al Sahel Resort, commented: “The unique location, as well as high degree of privacy, [will] enable us to serve regional audiences looking for exclusivity.
“Being the first of its kind in Bahrain, coupled with the high quality and variety of services and amenities on offer, it will allow us to capture the ‘longer-stay’ segment of visitors."
He continued: "In addition to Al Sahel, we are expecting 15 […] four- and five-star hotels and resorts to open across Bahrain in the next two years, joining a wide range of existing luxury brands.”
Expected to be completed within two years, the resort will feature room- and villa-based accommodation, as well as entertainment and leisure components, including restaurants, spa and sports facilities, a kids club, and meeting and conference services.
According to Al Sahel, the resort will be the first phase of the development it plans to implement, which will also consist of leisure, retail, and entertainment elements.
Dubai Holding company Jumeirah Group has signed a hotel management agreement to operate a luxury hotel and spa property within the resort.
Commenting on the project, Jumeirah CEO José Silva, said: "With a distinct secluded beachfront ambiance, the Jumeriah Al Sahel Resort will offer 207 keys between the luxury hotel and villas, where guests will be able to enjoy our […] spa, as well as a range of dining, retail, and sporting amenities, all set within a stunningly designed resort."
