DP World has gone up a gear it its safety plans by racing forward a road awareness initiative with Dubai’s Road and Transport Authority (RTA), car giant Mercedes-Benz, and tire supplier Michelin.

The two-week safety programme features seminars and demonstrations by German car firm Mercedes-Benz and French tire heavyweight Michelin. Both of the European automotive heavyweights will highlight how technologically-advanced trucks and tires can make driving safer in Dubai.

The initiative is part of DP World's efforts to improve road safety ahead of Expo 2020 Dubai.

Group chairman and CEO of DP World, Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, said: “We are committed to the safety and well-being of our employees and the wider community and by partnering with Dubai’s Road and Transport Authority and key industry players we are helping to promote it.

“As Expo 2020 draws closer, our roads will get busier and we will see a rise in truck traffic. Drivers and their employers are a key part of our operations in Jebel Ali and beyond and we aim to ensure those who visit or work here get home safely to join their families. Engaging with those involved in the movement of containers contributes to a safer community.”

Dubai-based DP World periodically runs road safety campaigns to educate truckers on traffic rules in port terminals, speed limits, restrict access areas, pedestrian crossings, restrictions on the use of mobile phones while driving, and the important of seat belts.
