A unit of Italy’s Salini Impregilo Group, Fisia Italimpianti, has been awarded a contract to build a wastewater treatment plant in Istanbul, Turkey.
Valued at $70.2m (EUR57m), the contract is the second deal in Turkey to be won by Fisia Italimpianti.
The first contract, which it won in 2016, involved the modernisation and expansion of a wastewater treatment plant in Istanbul’s Atakoy neighbourhood.
In a statement, Saligni Impregilo revealed that Genoa-based Fisia Italimpianti and its joint-venture partners, Alkatas and Alke, will develop the plant in the city’s Yenikapi neighbourhood, for Istanbul Su ve Kanalizasyon Idaresi (ISKI), a municipal water utility.
The project is expected to take 36 months to deliver and will treat 450,000m3 of wastewater per day upon completion.
According to the group, the plants in Atakoy and in Yenikapi will have the capacity to treat sewage water produced by 30% of the population of Istanbul.
