Integrated midstream and downstream energy company, Puma Energy, hosted its first UAE road safety event in February 2018 to highlight existing risks across the region.
The UAE Be Road Safe event, co-sponsored by Impala Terminals, took place at Puma Energy’s Gulf Refining Company building in the port of Jebel Ali, Dubai.
The aim of the event was to help local truck drivers to better understand the rules of the road and to learn how they can drive more safely.
Supporters of the event included DP World, Trakhees, and Department of Planning and Development, and the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), which spoke to attendees about regional road safety incidents.
In addition to talks, video demonstrations and virtual simulations were conducted.
As part of the experience, visitors had the chance to enter an RTA simulator to experience what it feels like when a truck or car is involved in an accident.
Various scenarios and conditions that could result in accidents, such as fatigue and loss of control, were also covered.
Nazar Juma, regional general manager at Puma Energy, said, “Road safety is a critical issue across the globe and is therefore a priority that needs to be addressed.
"We hope this event reinforces positive messages around the importance of safe driving. We have been running the Be Road Safe campaign for five years and have helped educate numerous communities around the world on safe driving and pedestrian best practices.
"If we save even a single life as a result of the event, we will have made a positive difference,” he added.
