How long have you been in your current role and where did you work before?

I’ve held the position of operations director at Emrill for one year and three months now, having been internally promoted from the position of general manager (residential health care and infrastructure). I held that post for more than five years. In total, I’ve worked for Emrill for nearly 15 years.

What do you love most about your job?

It is always the people. Last year, we won the Overall FM Company Of The Year award at the Facilities Management ME 2017 Awards, and this success was largely due to the commitment and drive of our almost 8,000 staff members. I also really enjoy providing cost effective solutions to complex building management and maintenance issues. At Emrill, we recently completed a retrofit energy performance contract (EPC) at one of our sites in Dubai. The EPC is now producing annual energy savings of more than 26%.

What is your most memorable professional achievement?

Being promoted to the position of operations director at Emrill has been a major highlight of my career. In my opinion, remaining positive and committed to your job always pays off in the end.

What are the key challenges that you face in your current role?

It’s always a challenge to conduct building maintenance in active areas where building users are present. Our objective is to try not to cause any disruption to users or residents.

For example, Emrill handles the facilities management (FM) at Dubai International Airport, and it is a challenge to complete FM work in a concourse that is active 24/7, with staff and passengers always present in the service area.

We have, however, developed many techniques, policies, and training courses to ensure that building maintenance work can take place in a safe and effective way. We are pleased to say that Emrill won the safety award at Dubai International Airport last year due to our safety-first approach, so all our hard work is paying off.
