Al Shirawi FM has launched a new training academy targeting line employees working as technicians and senior technicians.
The programme, named ASTRA, the Greek word for stars, is aimed at training low level technicians with limited resources within specific areas like MEP and HVAC systems.
Charalampos Sarafopoulos, general manager of Al Shirawi FM, said: “However, it's also an abbreviation for Al Shirawi Training Academy,” said Charalampos Sarafopoulos, general manager of Al Shirawi FM."
He added: “The training platform will be open to all, and what sets it apart from the others [available in the market] is that it's free of cost. Technicians from other companies, from all over the UAE can avail of training and be part of our modules.”
Through ASTRA, Al Shirawi FM does not aim to impart coaching to managers, directors or engineers. “We interested in training low level technicians that don't have the financial wherewithal to train themselves on HVAC, plumbing and MEP in general.
“The goal is for a technician to ultimately become a senior technician, to a foreman and a supervisor, so on and so forth,” he told fmME exclusively.
Expertise will be sought from within the group as the company’s knowledgeable technicians and engineers from construction to facilities management will volunteer to provide the various training programmes.
The activity is part of the firm’s CSR efforts.
