Financial concerns are delaying project commencements in the Gulf, an industry expert told ConstructionWeekOnline.

Antti Rousku, general manager at Peikko, said this trend consequently impacts project schedules.

He continued: "When financial issues [are] solved, the time schedule for the actual construction phase is very short.

"We need to think about new solutions in construction to shorten building times, without compromising on quality and safety." 

Rousku was speaking to ConstructionWeekOnline ahead of the Construction Week: Leaders in Construction UAE Summit 2017, due to be held in Dubai on 19 September. 

Peikko's general manager expressed optimism about the Emirates' building sector. 

Commenting on the UAE's construction industry, Rousku said: "The volume and size of ongoing and planned projects is remarkable.

"Also, the way of designing and building is developing rapidly.

"Being involved in the construction business in such a situation is very exciting." 

The summit, now in its eighth iteration, will be held at the Jumeirah Emirates Towers.
