A 132/11 kilovolt (kV) main sub-station being developed by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) at the Expo 2020 Dubai site is 71% complete.
Construction of the Opportunity sub-station is progressing to plan, DEWA officials said.
DEWA revealed Opportunity's development costs amount to $38.6m (AED142m), of which $22.4m (AED82.3m) is allotted for the plant, and $16.2m (AED59.7m) for the facility's 132kV cables.
The sub-station has a conversion capacity of 150 megavolt-amperes (MVA), and is expected to be operational by the end of December 2017.
HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, managing director and CEO of DEWA, said the project is one of the three sub-stations being developed at the Expo 2020 Dubai site, which have a combined value of $114.3m (AED420m).
He added: "In 2016, we built 16 132/11 kV substations, and we now have 225 of these [facilities].
"We are constructing another 118 substations over the next three years, with a total investment of $2.7bn (AED10bn)," he added, according to Dubai Media Office.
