Philips Lighting has announced the appointment of Goktug Gur as president for the Middle East and Turkey region, effective June 15, 2017.

Currently managing director for Turkey and Middle East (excluding Saudi Arabia), Gur will take on the new role in addition to his current responsibilities.

He will succeed Paolo Cervini, who is moving to pursue interests outside the company.

Announcing Gur’s appointment, Murali Sivaraman, president of growth markets at Philips Lighting, said: “Goktug Gur has a proven record of delivering projects and successfully leading our business across a number of markets. Goktug, who brings more than two decades of leadership in the region, will drive Philips Lighting Middle East and Turkey into a new era of LED adaptation, digitally connected lighting for the Internet of Things (IoT), and sustainable innovation.

“We congratulate him on his new assignment. I would also like to thank Paolo Cervini for his valuable contribution throughout his career at Philips Lighting, building and maintaining a successful business in the region,” Sivaraman added.

Commenting on his latest appointment, Gur said: “I am excited to lead Philips Lighting through an inspiring phase in time and to build further on our regional operations. There is an enormous opportunity that lies ahead for Philips Lighting and I look forward to working closely with our regional team to lead this next chapter of lighting for brighter lives and a better world while focusing on growth and delivering the best results for our customers.”

Gur moved to Dubai in March 2017 after four years in the role of chief executive officer for Philips Lighting Turkey. He brings with him vast knowledge of the project business and regional experience having spent over 20 years in leadership positions within the region, according to his employer.

Gur graduated from Yıldız Technical University's department of electrical engineering in Turkey, before obtaining MBA degrees from Marmara University, Turkey, and the University of Maine, United States.
